Java Engineering Lead / Manager – Java/SQL – Equities, FX, Futures, Rates, Market Data, Middle Office – Hedge Fund/Investment Management – £100k – £130k + 30% Bonus – City of London (Hybrid)

We are representing a global asset management firm with circa $15 billion under assets across a variety of highly complex trading strategies.

We are now searching for a Java Technical Lead / Manager to lead a small team (offshore) of data technologists delivering innovative data and reporting solutions across the organisation. This role encompasses a variety of technical leadership and managing day to day activities with other technical leaders. You will lead the technical design and implementation and propose innovative, solutions to improve current systems and data processes.

Experience, Knowledge & Skills

• 7+ years’ development experience with Java and SQL expertise

• Able to demonstrate a willingness and ability to lead other developers

• 4+ years of solid database design and development including SQL, data modelling, query optimisation

• Experience in handling financial data sets and familiarity with financial instruments (equities, futures, FX)

• Experience of systems design and platform selection. Ability to develop & test solutions to address the client problems & requirement

• Excellent communication skills. Should have strong relationship management skills and be comfortable interacting with all management levels

• Well organised with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple streams of work

Desirable:

• Experience in designing & developing data processing solutions & custom ETL pipelines for varied data formats

• Experience of developing tools for managing/visualising/exploring complex data sets

• Exposure to Python

• Exposure to data vendor technology; Bloomberg, Thomson Reuters ext

Exposure to Cloud technologies, particularly AWS and Snowflake

• Experience of managing offshore resources in India.

• Familiarity with Big Data ecosystem

This is a role of high importance, with unlimited autonomy and the ability to shape the Data practice for this leading, asset management and hedge fund firm.
