Role Overview:

Reporting to the Head of Sovereign within the Sustainable Investment Research team, the Senior Research Lead, Sovereign Climate will spearhead research and development of new transition risk-related scoring models and assessment tools and maintain existing ones. This role requires a candidate who is not only well-versed in climate research but also possesses strong communication skills to represent the Sustainable Research team to internal and external stakeholders, including clients, investor initiatives, standard setters, and regulators.

Key Responsibilities:

Research and Development:

  • Lead the development of new Sovereign climate-related data types and models.
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis of sovereign climate performance within the context of investments.

Stakeholder Interaction:

  • Manage interactions with stakeholders on research and product development projects.
  • Represent the Sustainable Research team in various settings, interacting with significant clients and stakeholders.

Publication:

  • Author high-profile publications focusing on climate risk, emissions, carbon, and climate change.
  • Create thought leadership pieces to simplify complex research for non-experts.
  • These papers will be used by hundreds of asset managers to help inform their investment decisions from a climate point of view.

Strategic Leadership:

  • Help define the strategic research agenda within the climate field.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on sovereign climate-related issues with clients, key investor initiatives, standard setters, and regulators.

Team Management:

  • Supervise one junior team member, providing guidance and mentorship.

Climate Impact Assessment:

  • Conduct climate change impact assessments to understand the consequences of climate-related events.

Requirements:

  • 6+ years’ experience in quantitative and qualitative climate research, preferably in an investment context.
  • Previous experience in developing climate-related analytics products and frameworks is an asset.
  • A track record of impactful publications and clear, concise, analytical writing and presentation skills.
  • Experience or knowledge of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and their significance.
  • An advanced degree in a relevant field is required.
  • Deep understanding of the global sustainable investing landscape.
  • Experience in management would be appreciated.
  • Must be able to navigate stakeholders with varying demands and always be able to act as a team player.
  • Python or Excel proficiency is mandatory.
